Featuring a pair of Chinese and French lovers as the protagonists, “Bond of Love” is a touching love story set around the Canton Fair. The fate of the characters is closely linked to the background of the time. The glorious history of the Canton Fair from 1957 to the present day unfolds before the audience’s eyes. In August 2023, this musical was awarded as "Outstanding Play" at the 2nd National Excellent Musical Showcase, and won the second prize for large-scale drama at the 15th Guangdong Arts Festival.
Hong Wanting, a master's degree student of the School of Music, Class of 2022, plays the role of Isabella in the play. This was Hong’s first performance of this musical. As the lead actress of the show, Hong Wanting was excited to perform on stage. The moment she stepped on the stage, her nervousness disappeared. She completely immersed herself in the process of the performing. “Many professionals on the scene were all surprised. She sang so well!” said Song Xuelai, the producer of the musical.
To make the characters more vivid, Hong incorporated her understanding of the characters into the performance. Together with other actors, they had gathered a lot of information and carefully designed the characters’ movements according to the time and regional characteristics of the time and the region.
While studying at SCNU, Hong Wanting had many opportunities to showcase her skills. She is very grateful to the school and her teachers. “No matter how big the stage is, every time you step onto the stage, it is a metamorphosis of growth.” Hong says. Now more and more SCNUers are standing on their own stage and shine in the spotlight.
