The 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya concluded on October 4 after 16 days of competition. The Chinese delegation delivered a stellar performance, amassing a total of 341 medals, 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze, topping both the gold medal table and the overall medal table.

Twelve athletes from South China Normal University (SCNU) competed with distinction, collectively securing 4 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal. The Chinese national rowing team claimed 9 golds and 1 silver at the Games, with SCNU athletes contributing 4 of those gold medals. Liang Weikeng and his partner Wang Chang captured silver in the men’s badminton doubles, marking the first time since the 1990 Beijing Asian Games that a Chinese men’s doubles pair reached the Asian Games final, a historic breakthrough after 36 years.

Additionally, Professor Du Ning from SCNU’s School of Physical Education and Sports Science was invited to serve as an international technical official for the volleyball competition. Officiating at Asia’s premier sporting event with diligence, impartiality and rigor, he demonstrated the professionalism and poise of Chinese international volleyball referees.

In the men’s quadruple sculls, Mu Xiaolong, a 2026 master’s student in Sports Training at the School of Physical Education and Sports Science, teamed up with Zhang Xiuli, Xue Hao and Ou Zhiwei to represent China. The crew dominated the final with a time of 5:46.03, clinching the gold medal.

In the women’s 50m backstroke, Wang Xue’er, a faculty member at the School of Physical Education and Sports Science and a member of the Chinese national swimming team, touched the wall in 27.66 seconds to take the silver medal.

In men’s badminton doubles, Liang Weikeng, a 2024 master’s student in Kinesiology at the School of Physical Education and Sports Science, and his partner Wang Chang fought their way through rounds to send a Chinese men’s doubles pair to the Asian Games final for the first time in 36 years. They ultimately won silver in both the men’s doubles individual event and the men’s team competition.
Though the competition has drawn to a close, the vivid moments of these athletes giving their all will remain etched in our memories. Competing for their country and honor, they carry forward the spirit of Chinese sports onto a broader stage.
