The selection results of the Excellent Volunteer Chinese Teachers in Thailand during the school year 2017-2018 at the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) were recently announced. Han Xiaoju and Huang Ling, graduate students of class 2016 from the College of International Culture, South China Normal University (SCNU), were both granted this award for their outstanding performance as volunteer Chinese teachers to the Basic Education Commission of the Ministry of Education in Thailand.

Han Xiaoju, teaching at the Thonburiworatepeepalarak School in Bangkok, Thailand, is the leader of the Guangdong volunteer team for this year. In addition to completing her daily teaching tasks, Han also actively participated in various activities organized by the school and assisted students in achieving outstanding results in the overseas Chinese youth Chinese culture contest and the "Chinese Bridge – A Gem towards the North" International Chinese Contest. She was awarded the title of the“Most Popular Teacher” by local schools. Huang Ling, volunteer teacher at the Thonburi Education School in Bangkok, Thailand, spent her spare time helping students improve Chinese, preparing dance choreography and Kungfu performance and organizing Chinese Word Day events. She was quite popular among students and highly recognized by the school for her excellent job. Han Xiaoju and Huang Ling also won the first and second prizes of the“Teaching Skills Competition for Chinese Volunteer Teachers in Thailand during the School Year 2017-2018”, and their teaching plans were selected as the“2017 Excellent Teaching Plan for the Chinese Volunteers in Thailand”.

The College of International Culture has committed itself to preserving Chinese culture and promoting it to the world. It actively encourages graduate students to travel overseas to work as volunteer teachers. In the past five years, 139 people have been admitted to the Hanban Volunteer Chinese Teachers Program in 23 countries across five continents. In recent years, the college of International Culture has been a continuously innovating talent training model and made positive contributions to increasing the popularity and influence of SCNU overseas.
