Recently, five projects from South China Normal University have been selected for the Guangdong International Communication Cases of 2026, officially unveiled by the Government Information Office of Guangdong Provincial People's Government.
As a prestigious annual review initiative in the field of Guangdong’s external communication, the 2026 Guangdong International Communication Cases were coordinated by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and jointly assessed by provincial international communication think tanks and university experts, aiming to identify and showcase exemplary communication practice that vividly tell stories of Guangdong, the Greater Bay Area and China to global audiences.
SCNU has long attached great importance to international communication, aligning its work with national opening-up strategies and development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Guided by its international communication philosophy, SCNU has built a multi-layered, diversified and comprehensive international communication system through cultural interaction, academic exchange, think tank research and overseas Chinese language education services. It presents its development journey, illustrates Guangdong's practice of Chinese modernization, and steadily elevates its global reputation alongside Guangdong's soft power in international communication.
The five selected projects are detailed as follows:
"Voice of Hakka" team performs Hakka folk songs in Malaysia
SCNU’s Voice of Hakka Team has long conducted field research across Malaysian communities to collect and preserve overseas Hakka music scores, oral folk ballads and Hakka cultural archives. The team regularly holds Hakka folk song concerts and intangible cultural heritage workshops to pass down vocal skills and stage performance techniques, attracting more than 4,000 offline participants. Major Malaysian Chinese newspapers including Sin Chew Daily and China Press have continuously covered its activities.
In 2025, the team hosted the International Hakka Folk Song Exchange Showcase in Guangzhou and invited overseas Chinese teenagers to join a Hakka cultural root-seeking tour across Guangdong. Dozens of Hakka associations from Malaysia, Singapore and other regions participated in the event, helping young overseas Chinese revitalize and inherit their ancestral cultural heritage.
SCNU Center for Southeast Asian Studies enhances global theoretical influence via think tank outputs
Accredited by the Ministry of Education as a national Country and Regional Research Base, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies gave full play to its think tank roles and focused on frontier research into China-Southeast Asia cooperation throughout 2025, enhancing its capacity to articulate theoretical perspectives on the international stage. Bolstered by high-quality academic outputs, its researchers published 16 high-level papers and two academic monographs, and secured seven research projects within the year. Seventeen policy consultation reports compiled by the center were adopted and endorsed by higher authorities, furnishing robust academic support for regional economic and trade collaboration as well as international communication.
SCNU International Culture Festival creates a platform for global youth exchange
In November 2025, the 7th SCNU International Culture Festival was held on the Shipai campus, featuring an opening ceremony, multicultural performances and immersive cultural booth exhibitions. Attendees enjoyed diverse global cultures and talent shows staged by international students, alongside classic Lingnan performances such as lion dances, Yingge dance and Chinese martial arts. Nearly 3,000 Chinese and international students from 26 countries and regions gathered to experience cultural diversity.

2025 Southeast Asia Forum boosts academic and practical dialogue between China and Southeast Asia
Hosted by SCNU in 2025, the Southeast Asia Forum focused on “Inclusive cooperation and resilient development amid global transformation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan Free Trade Port, and Southeast Asia”. It gathered roughly 300 delegates from government bodies, universities, research institutions, think tanks, enterprises, social organizations and media outlets across China and the 11 Southeast Asian nations. Nearly 20,000 viewers tuned in via live webcast. Backed by participants worldwide and mainstream media coverage, the forum expanded its footprint across Southeast Asia, showcasing Guangdong's practices of high-standard opening-up and lifting global recognition of Greater Bay Area-Southeast Asia cooperation.

Three-dimensional communication model fuels international Chinese language education and cultural exchange
Leveraging its strengths in international Chinese education, SCNU has established a three-dimensional communication model for Chinese language teaching services, combining language instruction, cultural immersion and volunteer practice. On campus, SCNU has enrolled and nurtured over 20,000 international students from more than 100 countries. Regular workshops covering calligraphy, paper-cutting and traditional Chinese festivals are held to help overseas students experience authentic Chinese culture. Overseas, nearly 300 postgraduate Chinese language volunteers have been dispatched to 32 countries across five continents to deliver Chinese teaching. The integrated on-campus training and overseas practice mechanism nurtures a cohort of cross-cultural communication professionals, further expanding the global reach of Chinese language and culture.
