On July 2, the 5th China-Korea Competition Law Frontiers Forum was held in Guangzhou. The forum gathered more than 40 experts and scholars from academic and practical circles in China and South Korea, and held discussions focusing on cutting-edge issues in competition law in the digital economy. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Yongzhong, dean of the School of Law of South China Normal University (SCNU).

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Wang Chunchao, vice president of SCNU, and Bong-Eui Lee, Professor of the School of Law, Seoul National University and Director of the Competition Law Research Center delivered speeches respectively. Wang Chunchao pointed out that the forum was rooted in China-Korea practice and oriented toward global governance, accurately capturing the cutting-edge, practical and global nature of competition law research in the digital era. The forum was not only an essential platform that strengthens academic exchange, mutual learning of rules and governance synergy in the field of competition law between the two countries, but also the key vehicle to promote theoretical innovation, institutional improvement and practical implementation of competition law. Bong-Eui Lee stated that it was of vital significance to boost academic exchanges and cooperation in competition law between China and South Korea for addressing new challenges in the digital economy era and advancing theoretical innovation and practical development of competition law.

Huang Yong, Professor of the School of Law of University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), hosted the keynote speech session. Wang Xiaoye, Research Fellow of the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech themed on "the Consumer Welfare Criterion in Anti-monopoly Law Enforcement of the Platform Economy". Wang systematically elaborated on the theoretical logic and practical application of the measurement of consumer welfare in anti-monopoly enforcement of the platform economy. Professor Bong-Eui Lee delivered a speech themed on "an Analysis of Self-preferencing by Market-dominant Platforms based on the Naver Shopping Case". He combined the history of South Korea's economic development and typical enforcement cases, drew a comparison with the system of the European Union regulatory framework and analyzed the regulatory logic in South Korea of the treatment of digital platform enterprises in depth.

The forum set up four special units: "AI, Platform Supervision and Competition Policy" "Data, Algorithm and Regulation of Market Power" "the Implementation of Competition Law amid the Wave of Global Innovation" and "Dialogue on Cutting-edge Issues of Competition Law in the Digital Economy".

The forum showcased the latest research findings and enforcement practices in competition law and law enforcement practice between China and South Korea. It provided important intellectual support for improving the institutions of competition law in the digital era and promoting regional cooperation in competition.

The forum was hosted by the School of Law of SCNU and co-organized by the Competition Law Center of SNU, the Competition Law Research Center of Nankai University and the Research Center for Guangdong Rule of Law Development in the New Era, SCNU.
