The 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China concluded on November 21 in Shenzhen, in Guangdong province. Athletes from South China Normal University delivered an outstanding performance, securing five gold medals, which set a new university record. The historic achievement fully demonstrates the aspiring competitive spirit of the SCUN community.

Tong Jiajun, an instructor at the School of Physical Education & Sports Science, together with his teammates, helped the Guangdong team clinch gold medal in the Men's Basketball U22 Final. He said that his roles as a teacher and an athlete were mutually reinforcing, and hoped to pass on the never-give-up sports spirit to his students.

Liang Zhiwei and Gao Yingyi, both Grade 2022 undergraduates from the School of Physical Education & Sports Science, contributed to the Guangdong Men's Water Polo team's successful defense of their National Games championship title.
"This experience made me truly understand that a championship is built on the selfless support of the entire team,” Liang shared. Gao added, "Everyone should strive diligently toward their own goals.”

Deng Zhiwei, Grade 2024 undergraduate from the School of Physical Education & Sports Science, powered to victory in the Men's Single Sculls in a time of 4:59:17. Competing in his first National Games, he encouraged fellow students to pursue their dreams boldly, affirming that "persistence leads to victory".

Ni Xulin (graduate of 2024) and Nie Yide (Grade 2023 undergraduate), won gold in the Men's Double Sculls—the first gold for the Guangdong delegation after the opening ceremony.
As they believe, "Live in the moment, keep your feet on the ground, and the answers will reveal themselves through your actions." They hope to lead by example and influence more SCNU students positively.

Zhang Yahui, also a Grade 2023 undergraduate from the School of Physical Education & Sports Science, delivered a clutch performance during the Women’s Golf Team event, scoring crucial points to help Guangdong defend its title.
"It was all about teamwork," she said. "We have a true team spirit, and this achievement belongs to every one of us.”
South China Normal University was represented by a delegation of 66 student athletes and 2 faculty athletes at the Games. In addition to the five gold medals, they also secured 10 silver and 10 bronze medals in events including athletics, swimming, and badminton. With a total of 55 awards, SCNU set a new record for its best-ever performance at the National Games.
The Games, which officially opened on November 9, featured 419 gold medal events for professional athletes and 166 for amateurs. More than 25,000 athletes from across China pushed the limits of sport, breaking or setting 8 world records, 5 world youth records, 13 Asian records, 10 Asian youth records, 14 national records, and 7 national youth records.
