A meeting for youth scientists to launch and demonstrate the implementation plan of a project under the National Key Research and Development Program "New-Type Displays and Strategic Electronic Materials" was recently held at South China Normal University (SCNU). The meeting was attended by SCNU Vice President Yang Chengwei and more than fifty experts and project group members.
The primary project "Research on Optoelectronic Devices and Bionic Vision Perception Chips Based on Semiconductor Te", led by Professor Chen Jiewei from SCNU’s Institute of Future Science Technology, will develop intelligent chips with integrated sensing-computing capabilities to achieve energy-efficient perception of multi-dimensional visual information. The project is expected to offer core technical support to strategic emerging industries such as smart manufacturing and autonomous driving, ultimately creating more powerful vision capabilities for future intelligent systems.
At the meeting, SCNU Vice President Yang Chengwei delivered the opening speech and emphasized that the establishment of SCNU's Institute of Future Science Technology. It focuses on the research and development and achievement transformation of next-generation flexible photonic chips, which would fully demonstrate SCNU’s blueprint for scientific and technological innovation as well as talent cultivation. The launch of the project can strongly promote the development and technological breakthroughs of AI chips, providing important support to make the frontier technology become more self-supporting and to be better controlled.
Professor Chen Jiewei of SCNU and Professor Liao Lei of Hunan University respectively gave reports. A team of well-known domestic experts and many scholars from various universities in China led by Li Ling, the deputy director of Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, evaluated and inquired about the implementation of the two projects.
The panel suggested that the two project teams further strengthen collaborative innovation, and strive to produce landmark achievements with international influence and win competitive advantages for China in the field of new generation electronic materials.
