SCNU and Guangzhou NPP New Energy Power Co. Ltd (NPP) signed a cooperative agreement on the South China Research Institute for New Energy Materials Industry and held the inauguration ceremony at the University Town campus on November 12.

The event marked a milestone in the collaboration between SCNU and NPP in the field of new energy materials, further facilitating the technological progress and industrial upgrading of new energy, and strengthening the new energy field.

Wang Binwei, secretary of the CPC SCNU committee, said that SCNU has been researching into electrochemical energy storage for several years, and many experimental results have been industrialized in recent years. Based on the cooperation of the Research Center for Environmentally Friendly and Cost-efficient Sodium-ion Batteries, the two parties will now further cooperate in this institute. The coordination not only responds to the 20th National Congress of the CPC's call for "promoting closer enterprise-led collaboration between industries, universities, and research institutes", but also embodies both sides' contribution to the national strategy and the development of local economy and society, and the school-enterprise docking and complementation of advantageous resources, Wang added.

Teng Fei, chairman of NPP, extended his sincere gratitude on behalf of the company for the school's support and the technical team's research. He then introduced the achievements of the co-founded research center and NPP's plan. Teng affirmed that key issues such as fast charging and cycling performance of sodium-ion batteries, have been solved through school-enterprise cooperation and technology breakthroughs. The strategic partnership between SCNU and NPP will be further strengthened to solidify scientific research outcomes continuously, said Teng.
Associate Research Fellow Ma Liang of the School of Chemistry of SCNU presented basic information on the newly established research institute. He noted that many procedural advances have been made since the start of the collaborative project, facilitating the technological developments in sodium/lithium batteries and battery recycling. Additionally, follow-up will focus on exploring and innovating collaborative models, adhering to the goal-oriented approach of industrialization, and upholding a sharing and collaborative development.
