SCNU held the Forum on Carrying Forward the Spirit of Educators and the Donation Signing Ceremony of Wu Yingmin Education Fund on October 29 and 30, marking an important event in celebration of the 90th anniversary of SCNU.
With the theme of "implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and carrying forward the spirit of educators with distinctive Chinese characteristics", 90 education experts, scholars, famous teachers and principals were invited to the forum for keynote speeches, lectures, and reports.
At the same time, the Donation Signing Ceremony for the Wu Yingmin Education Fund was held, marking the establishment of the fund. In the name of Wu Yingmin, SCNU's former vice president and a distinguished educator in the country, the fund aims to encourage the professional development of teachers, thereby helping the improvement of basic and teacher education.
Zhu Jianhua, the deputy director-general of the Department of Education of Guangdong province, discussed the spirit of educators and its interpretation in his speech. The spirit of educators showcases distinctive Chinese characteristics and keeps pace with time, exemplifying national educators' values formed over the years in their education cause.
Zhu noted that Guangdong province has cultivated more than 1,390 workshop facilitators and more than 900 candidates were selected for the list of the Provincial New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten-Thousand Talent Projects over the years, which demonstrates the province's effort in encouraging the development of basic education. According to Zhu, the establishment of the Wu Yingmin Education Fund is a powerful practice of the great spirit of educators with distinctive Chinese characteristics and will have a positive influence on developing teacher education by attracting more talents.

Wu Yingmin, former vice president of the Chinese Society of Education and former vice president of SCNU, considered the establishment of this fund as an encouragement and incentive to him for his career at SCNU over the past 50 years. It encouraged him to work hard in education. He hopes that more people who care about education can join and contribute to this fund.

At the donation signing ceremony, donors from enterprises and individuals made donations. Up to now, donations to the Wu Yingmin Education Fund total more than 33 million yuan.

More than four hundred people, including relevant leaders, education experts, and representative teachers and principals at Guangdong province's top primary and secondary schools, attended the forum after. Besides, over 200,000 people watched the forum on line.
Guo Xinting, a government-paid teaching student at SCNU, said that after listening to the report, she had a clearer idea of the direction of her development and her career planning. Now, she would like to serve in places where the country and people need her the most. She will work hard to become a qualified teacher.
