Twenty students of SCNU won 20 gold, 16 silver, and 4 bronze medals and broke two event records during the 22nd National University Swimming Championship (Southern Division), which took place in Zunyi, in Guizhou province, in southwestern China from October 14 to 17.
Twenty athletes from the SCNU swimming team participated in the competition, led by Dean Duan Rui and under the instruction of Professor Zhang Meng, Wen Zehua and Zhao Miao of the School of Physical Education and Sports Science of SCNU. The competition attracted 437 competitors from 49 universities, including Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, Central South University, and the University of Macau.
SCNU’s team total scores ranked first in Group C of the men, second in Group C, and third in Group D respectively. The Athletes' wonderful performance brought SCNU praise and glory and demonstrated their capabilities and spirit of perseverance, resilience and determination.
Huang Yuxin, a 2022 undergraduate of the School of Physical Education and Sports Science, shared her story after the games. Despite feeling physically uncomfortable, she participated in two individual events and five relay events. She ultimately won three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. She attributed her success to her coach’s support and her strong determination. Her notable improvements in the championship were the acknowledgement of her training and preparation for the upcoming 1st Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China.
After the event, the SCNU swimming team immediately commenced preparations for the first Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China. Their aim is to achieve even greater success and bring honor to Guangdong province as representatives.
