The 17th “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest.
Apart from the special award, five other entries of SCNU were also shortlisted for the final round of the competition, and stood out among 1,260 entries from 446 universities with one first prize and four third prizes. The grand prize was awarded to a team formed by SCNU students from the School of Psychology for their project monitoring college students’ psychological crisis during the epidemic based on a three-stage survey at 22 universities in Guangdong province.

The team conducted a large-scale monitoring of college students’ psychological crisis during the Covid-19 epidemic and explored methods of psychological crisis prevention and control. At the beginning of the epidemic, the project team selected 22 universities in Guangdong province as monitoring sites and they conducted three on-line questionnaire surveys respectively during the outbreak period, the transition period and the regular prevention and control period. Through systematic monitoring, the project team learned the characteristics, the development pattern and the influencing factors of college students' psychological problems at each stage of the epidemic, and developed targeted psychological crisis intervention programs accordingly.
Their accomplishments were applied to the national psychological assistance platforms such as "Xinqing Hotline". Relevant ministries and commissions of the central government and the Guangdong provincial government use them to guide the work of psychological warfare, which has achieved good results.
The Challenge Cup is co-sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the National Federation of Students. The nationwide competition is known as an “Olympic” event for Chinese college students of academic science and technology. The Challenge Cup consists of two parallel projects, the National Undergraduate Business Plan Contest and the National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest.
In recent years, SCNU has achieved record highs in the "Challenge Cup" series of events. In the 2019 Academic Science and Technology Contest, SCNU's association total score ranked the first among national teacher training universities, marking its first National Victory Cup since the Cup was established 30 years ago. In the 2020 National Undergraduate Business Plan Contest, SCNU won the first National Victory Cup.
