While in northern China the first snow is falling, SCNU in southern China is greeted by the blossom of the Floss Silk tree (C. speciosa). Blossoming at its peak from November to December, those splendid flowers are brightening up the campus with vivid colors.
SCNU was the first to plant Ceiba speciosa in south China in 1985. With a history of more than thirty years, the Floss Silk trees at SCNU have witnessed the growth of people here from generation to generation. According to a rough estimate, there are more than 550 Floss Silk trees at SCNU, of which about 200 on the Shipai campus, 160 on the University Town campus, and 200 on the Nanhai campus.
