The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province and SCNU attached great importance to the event. Pang Guomei, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, inspector Lin Lin, Wu Jian and He Jingtao, vice presidents of SCNU, and Zuo Pengjun, dean of the International Cultural College, attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the camp.
Pang Guomei and Lin Lin first introduced to the students the functions of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and previous activities concerning overseas Chinese college students and elaborated on the general situation of society, economy and culture in Guangdong Province. Besides, they also encouraged them to visit around China, keep an eye on the development of Guangdong Province, and further their knowledge about the innovative and entrepreneurial environment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and hopefully seize the opportunity to set up business in the area. In addition, they called upon the students to share their experience in Guangdong with relatives and friends, playing the role of a bridge in promoting friendly exchanges between China and other countries, so as to let more people know about the genuine situation of China and pay attention to the development of China.
On the other hand, Wu Jian and He Jingtao mainly introduced SCNU’s efforts in disciplinary construction and development of foreign exchange. In order to meet the diverse educational needs of international students, SCNU has been endeavoring to build itself into an international campus and inviting outstanding overseas Chinese students to come to study and participate in exchange programs. Meanwhile, they hoped that overseas Chinese students can observe and taste the special features of Lingnan culture through research and lectures, get to know about the political, economic development and people's livelihood and local customs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, bear in mind they are the descendants of "Yandi and Huangdi Emperors”, and play the role of friendly messengers of people-to-people exchanges and communication between their host country and ancestral country.

This summer camp left a deep impression on the overseas Chinese college students and their parents as well. They have not only enhanced their knowledge, but also gained valuable friendship. The first overseas Chinese root-seeking summer camp was held in 1980. Since then, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong Province has accumulated more than 30,000 overseas Chinese youths to participate in activities in Guangdong. In recent years, the College of International Culture of SCNU has been actively undertaking the task of overseas Chinese youth root-seeking summer camps and achieved positive results.
