On October 12, the 26th China International Industry Fair (CIIF), themed “Smart Economy, Boundless Manufacturing”, opened at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). SCNU showcased seven technological innovations spanning quantum metrology, intelligent manufacturing, optoelectronic engineering, ecological remediation, environmental protection and intelligent agriculture.

SCNU’s exhibition wall at CIIF 2026 presents its seven technological achievements.
Four of them draw on SCNU’s strengths in physics and optoelectronics. A quantum precision measurement device based on Rydberg atoms developed by Professor Zhang Shanchao's team at the School of Physics has achieved the miniaturization and integration of measurement equipment and has been granted nine national invention patents.
Professor Zhou Guiyao and his team from the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering, presented a fiber-optic intelligent interactive device for integrated fine laser embroidery and cutting of textiles with CO₂ laser transmission, which combines laser cutting with computerized embroidery, with its products exported to more than ten countries.
Another project, namely photoacoustic-ultrasound multimodal integrated endoscope, developed by Professor Yang Sihua and his team, overcomes the bottlenecks of existing intracavitary imaging—“limited depth and clarity”—and won the First Prize of the Guangdong Optical Science and Technology Award.
Professor Zhuang Zhengfei and his team, also from the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering, introduced the world’s first quantitative FRET microscopic imaging analysis system for living cells. The equipment has been deployed in more than 40 research institutions.
The other three projects look outward, to ecology, the environment and agriculture. Professor Cao Baichuan and his team from the School of Life Sciences developed microbial ecological restoration technology for mining wasteland. With a total application area exceeding 30 million square meters, the technology was included in the List of Sustainable Development Technologies for Belt and Road Countries (2025).
Professor Huang Mingzhi’s team at the School of Environment showcased intelligent efficiency improvement and dynamic regulation technology for wastewater treatment processes and its applications. It delivers over 8% more energy savings compared with conventional methods.
Led by Professor Chen Wenli, another team from the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering developed a needle-based pulse diagnosis technology for monitoring citrus plant health. It enables wireless real-time monitoring and early warning of crop health conditions, tackling three core pain points in the citrus industry. The solution upgrades the traditional experience-based practice of "identifying tree diseases by visual inspection" to quantitative “data-driven health diagnosis”.

The Universities and Colleges Exhibition at CIIF 2026 draws a steady stream of visitors.
This year's universities and colleges exhibition at CIIF brought together 63 universities in the country to showcase 527 high-quality achievements, highlighting the core role of universities as innovation hubs and as a bridge for industry-academia-research collaboration and transformation.
