Eighty-eight scholars from South China Normal University (SCNU) have been named in the 2026 World’s Top 2% Scientists list recently released by Stanford University and Elsevier. This figure places SCNU fourth among China’s normal universities in terms of the number of listees.
The World's Top 2% Scientists list comprises a “career-long impact” ranking and a “single-year impact” ranking. The former measures a scholar’s research influence over their entire academic career, while the latter focuses on their performance in the past year. Thirty-seven SCNU scholars have been named on the “career-long impact” list and 81 on the “single-year impact” list, with 30 appearing on both.
The 37 scholars on the “career-long impact” list come from 10 schools and span 18 research sub-fields (see table below). The School of Chemistry leads with 11 scholars, followed by the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering with 7 and the School of Environment with 6. The School of Life Sciences and the School of Mathematical Sciences each contributed 3, while the School of Physics, the School of Computer Science and the School of Psychology each contributed 2. One scholar is from the School of Electronics Science and Engineering (School of Microelectronics).
The World's Top 2% Scientists list is drawn from a pool of nearly seven million researchers worldwide. To be included, a scholar must either rank among the global top 100,000 by the composite c-score indicator or place within the top 2% of their sub-field.
The table below lists the SCNU scholars named on the 2026 World’s Top 2% “career-long impact” ranking:
