On December 10, Yang Zhongmin, president of South China Normal University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, met with Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, president of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, and his delegation during their visit to Guangzhou.

President Yang extended a warm welcome to Dr. Bacon and his delegation. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between SCNU and the University of British Columbia in areas including student exchange, outstanding teacher training, and faculty development. Building on this foundation, Yang expressed hope that both universities would further leverage their strengths to enhance cooperation in high-level talent cultivation, joint education programs, and multi-campus student development, so as to deepen the quality and substance of the partnership.

Dr. Bacon noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the sister-province relationship between British Columbia and Guangdong province. The delegation's visit to Guangzhou aimed to further strengthen ties with key partners like SCNU. He remarked that the two universities have enjoyed positive cooperation for over a decade, with SCNU students forming an important part of UBC’s alumni community. Dr. Bacon expressed his anticipation for expanding mutually beneficial exchanges and cooperation in talent development and joint educational programs.
