The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the results of the 2025 election of new academicians on November 21. One new member, Professor Yang Zhongmin of South China Normal University, was added to the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Professor Yang Zhongmin, who is also President of SCNU, was elected as a new academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He has long been engaged in research in the fields of glass optical fiber, fiber lasers, and laser applications.

An academician is the highest academic title in China in the field of science and research, and the list is updated every two years. This year, a total of 144 new academicians, including 73 CAS academicians and 71 CAE academicians from China and 51 from abroad were added.
