The 2025 annual council meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of La Réunion (France) and the second meeting of the 12th council of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia were held online on March 31.

At the 2025 Board Meeting for the Confucius Institute at the University of La Réunion, Wang Chunchao, vice president of SCNU, reviewed the progress on establishment of the Confucius Institute in collaboration with the University of La Réunion. He said that 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of the Institute's founding and SCNU would enhance the mechanism of sending teachers to conduct Chinese language teaching in Réunion, share high-quality teaching resources with the partner university, support localized curriculum development, and explore more innovative "Chinese plus" programs.
Anne-Francoise Zattara, vice president in charge of International Relations and Regional Cooperation at the University of La Réunion, praised the institute’s pivotal role in promoting Chinese language education at the university and across the island. Marjolaine Roche, associate professor at the university and board member of the Confucius Institute at the University of La Réunion, and Aline Kwan, the French director of the Institute, reported on the teaching activities of the Institute in 2024, faculty development, financial management, and student training, as well as plans for cultural programs of teaching training, relevant budgets, and new courses in 2025. The two sides also discussed matters such as financial arrangements, selection of Chinese directors and student exchange programs, reaching preliminary agreements.
During the meeting for the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, Enno Ence, vice president of the University of Latvia, highly commended the achievements made by both sides in the development of the Institute, academic collaboration and student exchanges. Wang Chunchao said that the two sides will continue to promote high-quality cooperation and carry out more exchanges and cooperation.
He Dong, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, and Peteris Pildegovics, the Latvian director of the Institute, respectively delivered work reports for 2024 and the work plans for 2025, which were approved by the council. Other attendees from the Latvian side included Baiba Petersone, director of the Department of International Cooperation of the University of Latvia, and Agita Baltgalve, head of the Chinese Studies Program, Faculty of Humanities.
The Confucius Institute at the University of La Réunion (France) was jointly established by SCNU and the University of La Réunion in November, 2010; and it was honored as a "Global Model Confucius Institute" in 2017. The Confucius Institute of the University of Latvia was founded in 2011 by SCNU and the University of Latvia, and it's the only one Confucius Institute exists in Latvia.
