President of SCNU Yang Zhongmin met with Ambassador of Timor-Leste to China Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta and counselor of Timor-Leste embassy in China Rogério Paulo Chaves on February 28. Discussions focused on the establishment of joint research laboratory and strengthening educational cooperation and cultural exchanges.

Yang Zhongmin shared with them the university’s achievements as a Double World Class university and the latest development of academic disciplines. He said that both sides have seen frequent exchanges and achieved greater cooperation results in recent years, and cited the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Joint Laboratory co-established by SCNU and University of Timor-Leste, which had received attention and support from Ambassador Da Silva Horta.
SCNU has attached great importance to deepening cooperation with Timor-Leste and looked forward to making contributions to strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries through the establishment of joint research laboratory, said Yang.

Ambassador Da Silva Horta spoke highly of the collaborative achievements between SCNU and Timor-Leste in the fields of education and technology and praised the progress of the BRI Joint Laboratory and expressed confidence in its long-term impact. He noted that the Center for Timor-Leste Studies at SCNU is the world's only research institution dedicated exclusively to Timor-Leste studies, emphasizing the great potential for cooperation between Timor-Leste and China under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Timor-Leste embassy stands ready to further deepen and expand collaboration between SCNU and relevant Timorese universities and research institutions, so as to advance educational and scientific development in both countries, said Ambassador Da Silva Horta.
