The Teng Yun Chinese Temple (To’Kong China Brunei Darussalam) at the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday received a visit by a nine-member delegation from the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies of South China Normal University (SCNU) from China.
Vice president of SCNU Professor Wu Jian who is also the director of Centre for Southeast Asian Studies led the delegation.
Upon arrival, the visitors were welcomed by Teng Yun Temple Chairman Lee Eng Ching with Deputy Chairman Tiah Eng Beng as well as executive committee members. In his welcoming remarks, Lee Eng Ching shared the history of the temple which has been standing in the country for more than 100 years.
Meanwhile, Professor Wu Jian said the purpose of the visit is to learn about the development of Chinese culture in Brunei Darussalam as well as contribution and efforts of Teng Yun Temple in preserving Chinese culture.
Both sides also discussed on enhancing mutual understanding and explored opportunities for educational cooperation and exchanges.
The visit concluded with the exchange of memento between Teng Yun Temple and SCNU.
The delegation also included dean of school of geography and director of Asian Geographical Research Centre Professor Liu Yungang, Senior counsellor of Centre for Southeast Asian Studies Professor Ke Sen, Associate Professor Feng Dongmei of School of International Culture’s Director of Training, Director of Research Department Associate Professor Gao Huangwei with researchers Wu Jingling and Hu Hengbo.
The delegation will be in the Sultanate until July 12 and is set to visit local Chinese school as well as Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Chinese enterprises in the country.
