On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Sino-Hungarian diplomatic relationship, the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts and the Hungarian national treasure, the Bela Bartok Male Choir of the University of Pécs, came to South China Normal University (SCNU) on June 24. During the visit, SCNU and the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts of the Univerity of Pécs signed a cooperation agreement on musical education, and organized a Sino-Hungarian Music Exchange during a Pearl River Night Cruise.
Under the theme of "Sino-Hungarian Musical Echo over the Pearl River”, the event was attended by leaders and guests of the provincial education department, culture and tourism department, and foreign affairs office, overseas Chinese federation and SCNU alumni. Dean of School of Music of SCNU Professor Yang Tianjun and dean of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts of the University of Pécs, Tamás Lakner, signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities. In accordance with the agreement, both sides will make substantive efforts in cooperation in the area of introducing the high-quality educational resources, personnel training, academic research, teacher visits and student exchanges. They also exchanged gifts at the ceremony.
Wang Deqing, executive chairman of the China-Hungary Police Exchange Association gave a speech. He said that as this year marks 70 years of Sino-Hungarian diplomatic relations, and Guangzhou being an important Chinese metropolis and the core city in the Greater Bay Area, the signing of a cooperation agreement between SCNU and the University of Pécs is of great significance. He hopes that this activity will provide a good platform for students and teachers from both universities to conduct exchanges. Also he hopes more cultural exchange activities to be held in the future, so as to boost understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
Ms. Tan Weihong, director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of SCNU extended warm welcome to the Bela Bartok Male Choir in Guangzhou. She then gave a brief introduction about SCNU and the achievements of School of Music. Lastly, she highly praised the cooperation with the University of Pécs, and said she believed it would help to improve musical education for both sides.
Dr. Péter Hoppál, member of Parliament and ministerial commissioner sent a congratulatory letter to South China Normal University, and said he looked forward to good results of the communication and cooperation.
After the signing ceremony, a wonderful performance of the SCNU Choir and the Bela Bartok Male Choir was staged. Known as "golden tone", the rich male voice of the choir of the University of Pécs, and the distinctive type of singing style by SCNU Choir echoed over the Pearl River, bringing the event to a climax.
Musical exchanges and cooperation of both universities will further advance educational cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative, enhance the cultural and educational soft power of Guangzhou and Pécs, thus setting up platforms in cultivating brilliant talents in both cities.
