Liang Weikeng, a student majoring in Physical Education at South China Normal University devotes all his passion to badminton. He has won a silver medal in the men’s doubles badminton at the Paris Olympic Games this year.
Born in Guangzhou, in Guangdong province in 2000, influenced by his father, Liang has developed a keen interest in badminton ever since he was a child. Owing to his fervent enthusiasm for badminton and his unremitting efforts, he was selected to Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports for systematic training at the age of 10. In August 2015, he entered a professional team. In 2018, he secured a position on the national team, and won the runner-up of men's doubles. He was the team champion at the Asian Youth Badminton Championships, and the team champion at the World Youth Badminton Championships, as well as came out in the third place of the men's doubles. With the joint efforts of his partner Wang Chang, Liang overcame various difficulties and won several awards. Their world ranking jumping from below 1,000 to the first place. In August 2024, they won the runners-up in the men’s doubles badminton at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Obviously, these honors and awards are proof of Liang’s superb badminton skills and strong cooperation with his partner.

However, as we all know, “Rome was not built in a day. ”Behind the honors he has achieved lies his relentless dedication to badminton. During his childhood, Liang was consistently the last runner in the team due to his stout figure. Nevertheless, he refused to give up and even practiced harder. Eventually, he achieved significant advancements in running. What’s more, in order to improve his performance, he once managed to lose 15 pounds in two months. No matter how hard it was, he tried to overcome it and persevered. His indomitable spirit has also infected many people. “Liang Weikeng possesses the strength of the unyielding,” Yang Xinfang remarks, the head coach of the Guangzhou Badminton Team.
In addition to the daily training, Liang also enjoys university life at SCNU such as running and playing games like other students. Also, his humble and honest character is praised by those around him. The support of the school has been an integral part of his achievements so he has always been grateful to school. On August 29, of this year , Liang returned to SCNU as a graduate student of Grade 24 to make friendly exchanges with teachers and students. At the event, he shared his experience in playing badminton and expressed his gratitude to the school, which lit up the meaningful event, leaving an unforgettable memory for those present.

“Don’t think about two hours and eight kilometers away,” Liang said. From his point of view, only cherishing the time and continuing to struggle is the essence of life. It is his excellent mentality that helps him make great progress in playing badminton. As an outstanding SCNUer who has brought honor to the nation, Liang illuminates us with practical action. Only when we grasp the moment and work hard bit by bit, we can seize the opportunity to achieve our own dreams and realize the great Chinese Dream. Undoubtedly, his fighting spirit will inspire all other SCNUers to keep moving forward.
