International students at SCNU write down the birthday wishes to SCNU in their home languages.
Guan Lin, a former president of SCNU.
Guan Lin was the president of SCNU in 1992. He was once a student in the School of Chinese Language and Literature in 1952 and engaged in teaching at SCNU in 1956. In his fourth year as the president, SCNU became a member of "Project 211", a national project aiming to establish 100 key universities and colleges in China. As a witness to the history of SCNU since its relocation to the current Shipai campus, he jokingly calls himself as "an absolute SCNUer" and is delighted to see the remarkable changes of SCNU.
This year, both Guan Lin and SCNU welcome the age of 90. He sees the school as his good old friend and hopes that SCNU continues to develop into a world-renowned university in the world.
Liang Xianda (the middle), once a student at the School of Foreign Studies in 2002
18 years after graduation, Liang Xianda's memories of life at SCNU remain vivid. As he recalls, though the time he spent at SCNU was short, the school had a profound impact on him.
Majoring in Business English, Liang Xianda said the lake on the Shipai campus was his favourite spot where he used to practise his English with friends, who witnessed his improvement in English learning and the time he worked hard. With limited access to advanced electronic devices, their life was simple but full of pleasure. He still remembered watching the NBA with his peers in the canteen. "When Tracy McGrady got 13 points in 35 seconds, the whole canteen burst into applause, and we were all very excited! The vigour and the spirit in youth are the most valuable."
Ji Ruila sends his wishes.
Ji Ruila, an international student from the Republic of Sierra Leone, is pursuing his degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at SCNU. When talking about the experience of studying at SCNU, he mentions that the teacher who is in charge of the scholarship application at the School of International Culture impressed him, for the teacher is always caring and helpful.
During his campus life, he has participated in some cultural exchange activities, such as sharing his opinion on the Belt and Road Initiative with China Central Television (CCTV) and serving as one of the hosts during the 11th Food Culture Festival and the 6th International Cultural Festival of SCNU. "I have learned that students from more than 50 countries are studying at our school. I hope our school could be more and more international and the activities even more wonderful!"
Wish SCNU a happy birthday!
