With the snow fluttering from the northerly sky, the winter has set in with iconic seasonal scenery of pure white in the north of China, while Ceiba speciosa colors the campus of SCNU enchantingly pink in mellow southern China.
Back in 1985, Ceiba speciosa began its journey to southern China when Pan Jionghua, the former president of SCNU, received 15 seeds of Ceiba speciosa as a gift at an academic exchange in Southeast Asia. Cultivated by Professor Mo Ximu of the School of Life Sciences, Ceiba speciosa thrived at SCNU and became a must-see scenery on the campus. During the fall and winter, the floss silk tree warms up the cold air and keeps passers-by spellbound, warming the chilly days at SCNU with pink flames.
