May 26-29, the Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE) was held at the School of Educational Information Technology of South China Normal University (SCNU). The conference was hosted by SCNU and Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education and sponsored by the School of Educational Information Technology, SCNU and the South Education Information Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance. It is the third time that SCNU has staged the conference since the inaugural GCCCE 1997 and GCCE 2007.
GCCCE was held at the SCNU School of Educational Information Technology.
The conference theme of GCCCE 2018 is“From 'Educational Innovation' to 'Innovation Education'". The conference program comprised of keynotes, paper presentations, workshops, panels, a Doctoral Student Forum, a Teachers' Forum and industrial exhibitions. A total of 346 papers from 668 authors were received, covering countries and regions such as Singapore, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Mongolia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. During the conference, nearly 300 thousand people watched the live webcast; while readership through new media reached nearly 20 thousand. A number of mass media including Sohu News, Guangming Daily, Nanfang Daily, Southern Metropolis Daily, Guangzhou Daily, New Express, Guangdong TV Station covered the meeting.
On May 26, the opening ceremony of the conference was held at the lecture hall of the School of Educational Information Technology. SCNU president Wang Enke, vice president Hu Qintai, former director of the Ministry of Education Song Chengdong, vice president and general secretary of the Chinese Association for Educational Technology Ding Xin, former president of the Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education Professor Chen Dehuai, and president of the Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education Professor Lv Cijie, chairman of the GCCCE2018 Agenda Committee Professor Zhuang Shaoyong and other academic representatives and leaders from related departments attended the opening ceremony. Wang Enke, on behalf of SCNU, delivered a welcome speech. Lv Cijie and Zhuang Shaoyong gave speeches as well.

Professor Hu Qintai of SCNU delivered a keynote speech titled "Innovation Challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and New Pattern for Wisdom Education", in which he illustrated the development path integrating intelligent information technology with education, and draw a new pattern for wisdom education in the new era. Besides, he also introduced SCNU's efforts in exploring “Internet + Innovative Talents development”.

Professor Wang Qiong of Peking University gave a keynote speech entitled "A Study of MOOC's Feasibility for Teacher Training”, in which he touched upon the unique aspects of MOOCs for teacher training, the issue of teacher training MOOCs, and the research and practice of teacher training using MOOCs.

Professor Michael Spector from University of North Texas gave a keynote speech titled "Emerging Educational Technologies in China and the USA: Contrasting and Complimentary Similarities", in which he compared the similarities and differences of the education technology plans between China and America, and evaluated their respective features. In addition, he also held an academic lecture "Academic Writing and Publishing", offering instructive suggestions for the listeners.

Professor Zhang Jianwei from the State University of New York at Albany gave a speech on “How Schools Become a Social System in Support of Innovation”, and further illustrated the topic from four aspects, namely, knowledge creation, new vision for collaborative inquiry, our work and conclusions & directions. Professor Sherry Y. Chen of National Central University also delivered a speech titled "Using Digital Learning Tools to Enhance Academic English Skills: An Individual Difference Perspective", in which she explored factors affecting student’s English academic writing and put forward solutions concerning their problems.

GCCCE 2018 also consists of nine theme-based sub-conferences including Science of Learning, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning and Smart Education; Digital Classroom, Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning; Joyful Learning and Society; Technology in Higher Education and Human Performance; Teacher Professional Development and Educational Policy; Technology Enhanced Language Learning; Learning Analysis, Assessment and Artificial Intelligence in Education; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Maker Education; Digital Technology, Innovation, and Education. Meanwhile, a teacher forum, doctoral student forum, workshops and seminars were also held during the conference.
GCCCE 2018 also consists of nine theme-based sub-conferences.
The closing ceremony was held on the morning of May 29. Professor Lv Cijie, Chairman of the conference, and Professor Huang Muxiong, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, delivered closing speeches respectively. Moreover, the award ceremony was held at the conference, covering the Best Paper of Teacher Forum, the Best Student Paper, the Best Technical Paper and the Best Research Paper. GCCCE2019 will be held at Huazhong Normal University, in Wuhan.
