The finals of the 6th National Teaching Innovation competition for college teachers were held in Nanjing from July 20 to 23. Faculty teams from South China Normal University took home four national second prizes and one third prize, ranking first in Guangdong province in both the level and number of awards.

SCNU’s five winning courses span three tracks: basic courses, artificial intelligence, and new liberal arts. Chen Yihang’s team from the School of Physics won a second prize for Optics in the basic courses full-professor group. Liu Zhe’s team from the School of Mathematical Sciences claimed a second prize for Primary Mathematics Curriculum and Pedagogy in the local-university group of the AI track. Shi Jiaxin’s team from the School of Psychology and Tan Zimin’s team from the School of Philosophy and Social Development each earned a second prize in the new liberal arts mid-level-and-below group, for Social Psychology and Children’s Rights and Protection respectively. Tan Lulin’s team from the School of Mathematical Sciences took a third prize for Optimization Methods in the basic courses associate-professor group.

Guided by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and hosted by the China Association of Higher Education, this year’s competition drew 138,000 teachers from 1,308 universities at the campus stage and 45,000 at the provincial stage, with 2,694 teachers from 699 teams advancing to the national on-site finals.

Since its launch six years ago, the competition has attracted 570,000 registrants nationwide, with 2,900 teams taking home awards. SCNU has qualified for and won awards in all six editions, accumulating 4 first prizes, 7 second prizes, and 8 third prizes at the national level, placing the university among the top performers nationwide.
