On May 6, South China Normal University achieved its best-ever result at the 6th National Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers (Guangdong province), held at Guangdong University of Technology. SCNU achieved its best-ever result, securing the highest number of entries advancing to the national finals of all participating institutions in the province.

SCNU entered 34 faculty members (or teams) into the competition. The university walked away with 7 grand prizes, 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 4 excellence awards, and was also honored with the Outstanding Organization Award. The number of awards and their levels marks a historic high for SCNU in this competition.
The seven grand prize winners—Chen Yihang (School of Physics), Liu Zhe (School of Mathematical Sciences), Wang Caijuan (School of Life Sciences), Tan Lulin (School of Mathematical Sciences), Wang Jun (School of Foreign Studies), Shi Jiaxin (School of Psychology), and Tan Zimin (School of Philosophy and Social Development)—will represent Guangdong Province at the national finals.

The award-winning faculty include both seasoned educators who have repeatedly achieved outstanding results at the frontline of teaching and promising early-career teachers who are bold in innovation and emerging as new talents, reflecting a well-structured talent pipeline. Their innovative teaching models have provided strong support for national and provincial first-class courses, enriched SCNU’s practical experience in teaching innovation, and highlighted the university’s fundamental commitment to teacher education as a normal institution.

Guided by the Department of Education of Guangdong province and co-organized by the Guangdong Association of Higher Education and Guangdong University of Technology, the competition is recognized as the highest-level, most extensive, and most influential teaching innovation event for undergraduate education in Guangdong province, often hailed as a “bellwether” for assessing the effectiveness of university teaching reform.
