South China Normal University showcased a total of 12 scientific and technological achievements at the 2025 China University Scientific and Technological Achievement Fair, which was held in Guangzhou from December 15 to 17.
The display of scientific and technological achievements of SCNU.
Under the theme of University-Industry Collaboration and Integrated Innovation: Boosting the Development of New Quality Productive Forces, the fair attracted participation from over 600 universities nationwide. Huang Kunming, Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, and Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng attended the event and delivered remarks at the opening session. A delegation from SCNU, led by Wang Hengyi, Secretary of the CPC SCNU Committee, and Wang Chunchao, vice president of SCNU, actively participated in the event.
The displayed scientific and technological achievements of SCNU spanned five key fields: high-end equipment, green environmental protection, new-generation IT, biomedicine, and new materials. The "Quantum Precision Measurement Equipment" developed by Professor Zhang Xinding’s team at the School of Physics drew significant attention. Selected as a key project for the "University Achievements Supermarket" roadshow, the team - a pioneer in China’s Rydberg atom manipulation technology - has developed the country's first atomic radio wave receiver, filling a technological gap. Their independently developed quantum terahertz camera and quantum far-infrared camera have reached internationally leading levels, demonstrating the core innovation capability of SCNU in the development of the discipline of physics.
Associate Professor Cao Baichuan's team of the School of Life Sciences presented their “Microbial Ecological Restoration Technology for Mining Wasteland”, which provides a breakthrough solution to the global challenges of acidification and heavy metal pollution in mining areas. With advantages like low cost, long-lasting effects, and wide applicability, the technology has been applied at over 20 mining sites in China, covering 30 square kilometers (11.6 square miles). It has been featured in a People’s Daily special report, included in the “Belt and Road” National Sustainable Development Technology List, and won the first prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.
In the signing zone of the fair, relying on SCNU’s A+ discipline of psychology, Associate Professor Zeng Lizhang’s team of the Institute for Brain Research and Rehabilitation signed a cooperation agreement with Guangdong Renhezhi Intelligent Technology Service Co., Ltd. to establish the “Future Education Panoramic Intelligent Joint Laboratory,” a concrete step in supporting national strategies for educational digitalization and “AI+”.
Professor Yang Sihua of the Institute of Biophotonics of SCNU introduced his team’s photoacoustic and ultrasonic multimodal techniques during media interviews. The integrated photoacoustic and ultrasonic multimodal endoscope unveiled at the conference is China's first photoacoustic microscopy imaging device approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). It effectively fills the deficiencies of optical imaging and ultrasonic imaging in depth and resolution, breaking the technical bottleneck in both scientific research and clinical applications, said professor Yang.
As a key side event, SCNU co-organized the "Thematic Exchange on Building Technology Commercialization Capacity and University Technology Manager Systems" with the Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Service Center. The event brought together over 200 participants from the Ministry of Education, local governments, universities inside and outside Guangdong, industry sectors, and professional organizations to discuss overcoming bottlenecks in university technology transfer and strengthening the professional development of technology managers.

It's also worth noting that SCNU's technology transfer efforts have received extensive coverage from major media outlets, including the official WeChat account of the Ministry of Education, China Education News, Nanfang Daily, Southern Metropolis Daily, Guangzhou Daily, Yangcheng Evening News, and Shenzhen TV. Yangcheng Evening News, in collaboration with the Department of Education of Guangdong province, ran a special feature highlighting the SCNU's accomplishments.
