The Chinese badminton team clinched the 2025 BWF Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team championship title in Xiamen, in Fujian province on May 4. Liang Weikeng, SCNU student from school of physical education and sports science, won the world championship with the team.
This year, Liang Weikeng was named to the 20-player roster again of the biennial Sudirman Cup. In the doubles arena, he continued to work hard to lead the men's charge with his partner, Wang Chang.
On April 28, Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang played their first match against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) in Group A. They defeated Hung Kuei Chun/Lui Chun Wai 2-0 (21-18, 21-18), helping the Chinese team secure a 5-0 thrashing of the opponent and advance to the quarter-finals.
On April 30, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang secured a 2-0 (21-14, 21-14) victory against Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren in the men's doubles match between China and Thailand, making efforts to assert the dominance of the Chinese Team in the competition, defeating Thailand 4-1 and clinching the top spot in Group A.
“I felt very honored to be a member of the Chinese badminton team in international competitions.” Liang said. During the preparation for 2025 Sudirman Cup, he made full preparation for every game and played his best on the court, playing an important role for the team to win the championship.
In the Sudirman Cup finals, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, who were scheduled to play in the 5th match, did not get a chance to take the court as the Chinese team had already won the championship beforehand. The team's cohesion and strong athletic strength made Liang feel both proud and honored.
This victory saw Liang Weikeng become a world team champion once again. Winning on home turf made it an especially unforgettable memory. Though the competition is over, the road ahead remains long. Liang's unwavering determination to push his limits and his heartfelt desire to win glory for his country remain steadfast. "Going forward, I will hold myself to even higher standards and contribute more to the development of Chinese badminton!" he said.
At present, Liang and his partner have already begun mapping out their training plan for the new cycle, aiming to face future challenges with more sophisticated tactics and greater mental fortitude.
