SCNU president Yang Zhongmin delivered his first lecture on ideological and political education on the Shanwei campus on April 2, and had lunch with students at the School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering. The theme of the lecture is to encourage students to dedicate their youthful strength to the progress of innovation and science technology.

Drawing on the personal learning and real-life work experience, Yang told the students about the epoch-making changes brought about by technological innovation in the context of the theme of innovation and technology. He explained that technological innovation is empowering thousands of industries and sectors, quietly changing our lives and bringing about qualitative leaps.

Yang provided an overview of the university's innovation and entrepreneurship education initiatives, highlighting the strong commitment to fostering student innovation through comprehensive support systems, including establishing the first undergraduate institute of entrepreneurship & innovation in Guangdong province. With the supprot system operated, SCNU students have won awards in numerous competitions, and awarded as exemplary models of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Student representatives also presented their scientific and practical achievements. Among them, the AI digital human all-in-one machine incubated by the Entrepreneurship College, and the headset brain-computer interface equipment developed by the team of the School of Computer, have been widely applied in educational and medical scenarios. Yu Mingyuan, the deputy team leader of SCNU’s PIONEER robot team, demonstrated the operation of various robots on the spot. Over the past seven years, this robot team has won 42 national awards and over 40 provincial awards. It is the first team among all normal universities in China to enter the RoboMaster University Championship (RMUC) and won the first prize in this series of competitions. Yang listened attentively and fully appreciated their achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship, scientific research, internship and practical training, and provided on-the-spot answers and solutions to their questions.
Yang Zhongmin expressed three expectations for the students of SCNU. He hoped that students could strenthen their researches and practices on sci-tech fields, bravely venture into the forefront of scientific research and innovation, and uphold perseverance and deeply engage in the field of scientific research and innovation.

Yang Zhongmin also had lunch with 13 student representatives and presented the Ninety Events in Ninety Years of SCNU about SCNU's history to the students. He encouraged them to study the history of South China Normal University, carry forward the spirit of SCNU, improve themselves and achieve a bright future.
