South China Normal University held four opening ceremonies to welcome its new cohort of more than 14,000 students on September 3.
The main opening ceremony was held at the University Town campus in Guangzhou, which was broadcast live via "Wechat". The other three ceremonies took place simultaneously at the Guangzhou's Shipai campus, Nanhai campus in Foshan and Binhai campus in Shanwei.
At the main venue, Wang Binwei, Secretary of the CPC SCNU Committee, presented appointment letters to class teacher representatives and Draft History of South China Normal University to new student representatives. He encouraged students to study the history of SCNU, learn about the university development, take up their mission, and train themselves to be talents for the country.

Yang Zhongmin, president of SCNU, also attended the main ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the new students from home and 39 other countries around the world. In his speech titled "Shouldering the Mission on the Road of Pursuing Dreams", he pointed out, every student made efforts to gather here and open a new chapter of life at SCNU. "SCNUer" will become their new identity and the identity will accompany them for the rest of their lives.
Yang addressed the question to the students: "What kind of person should a SCNUer be? What kind of university is SCNU?" He then introduced SCNU about the distinctive history of SCNUers' pioneering spirits, the contribution in the field of basic education, the characteristics of outstanding teacher education and the pursuit of first-class education.
He also encouraged students to keep their passion and pursue their dreams with solid steps, not to be limited by the starting point. Yang called on students to clarify "why for learn", "how to learn" and "what to learn". He added, "Adapt to university life quickly, make a plan for your university studies as early as possible, enjoy university time, and pursue your dreams to become a better person."

The ceremonies were held in a hybrid online and offline format started with a youth concert. All school leaders, members of the CPC SCNU committee, representatives of professors, new students and faculty members attended the ceremony and watched SCNU's original work Ode to SCNU. The ceremonies concluded with the school song.
