The 9th International Conference on Distance Education and Learning (2024) (ICDEL 2024) was held at SCNU from June 14 to June 17. Aiming to promote academic exchange and cooperation in distance education and learning, ICDEL 2024 focused on the combination of education and modern technology, providing a high-level exchange platform for experts and scholars to discuss academic development.

This conference took place in Guangzhou, which could also be attented on line. More than 100 experts and graduate students in the field of educational multimedia from China, the United States, Indonesia, Malaysia, Spain and other countries attended the conference to exchange and discuss the latest achievements in the field of distance education.
At the conference, Yang Chengwei, vice president of SCNU, delivered the opening speech and introduced the history and situation of SCNU to the attendees. Ke Qingchao, the dean of the School of Information Technology in Education at SCNU delivered a welcome speech. Professor Mario Barajas Frutos from the University of Barcelona introduced the history and achievements of the conference.

At the main venue, the conference invited Professor Li Qing (IEEE Fellow) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Jui Long (Andy) Hung from Boise State University in the United States, Professor Wang Minjuan (Editor in Chief of IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies) and Professor Bill Chi Ho Yeung from the Education University of Hong Kong to give keynote speeches respectively. Zhao Yushan from the University of Wisconsin and Dr. Cui Yan from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology made their special invited reports on line on June 17.

In addition to the main venue, the conference also ran 6 sub-venues, 5 on-line sub-venues, the C-STEAM Education Chinese Forum, and the Guangdong Famous Teacher Studio Host Forum, focusing on the theory and practice of interdisciplinary teaching and intelligent education, with special attention to the teaching achievements of frontline teachers and teacher-training students. More than 100 attending representatives engaged in lively discussions on online education and blended learning, artificial intelligence in education and educational robots, educational digitization and distance education, educational diversification and future development, technology-enhanced teaching and mobile learning, educational data mining and human-computer collaborative learning.
The conference received 186 submissions, including 64 full-text papers and 14 abstract papers, and 140 formal participants, including 18 experts, 112 authors, 62 Chinese forum report representatives, and a total of 123 on-line participants.
Hosted by SCNU, the conference was organized by the School of Education Information Technology of SCNU, and supported by Capital Normal University, Tongji University, and the Education University of Hong Kong. Its convening was of far-reaching significance to the teachers and students of SCNU, which not only opened up new teaching ideas but also laid a solid foundation for further research and strengthening international cooperation.
