As the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanyang Festival, approached this year, a special event for zong-zi making was organized at the School of International Culture, where local and international students from nations such as Russia, Indonesia, Latvia and Bangladesh, together with their teachers and other staff members, gathered to explore Chinese culinary tastes and experience traditional Chinese culture.
Zhao Di, deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, gave a speech at the beginning of the event. She spoke highly of the event and said that it would help international students learn more about Chinese culture. She also expressed her hope for more international students taking an active part in campus life.
Jin Tan, dean of the School of International Culture, said that the school would continue to shoulder the responsibility of inheriting Chinese culture and welcome students worldwide to SCNU for exchange and learning.

What followed was a traditional cultural experience workshop - Zongzi making. Staff members from the Taoyuan canteen brought different flavours of zongzi, a type of sticky rice dumpling, and demonstrated how to make zongzi. After that, students learnt how to fold the bamboo leaves and bundled the ingredients and fillings together. They can also exchanged their handmade ones for those cooked.
Sk MashrurIshrak, an international student from Bangladesh, participated in the Dragon Boat Festival cultural event for the second time. He said, "I am honored to participate in the Dragon Boat Festival event organized by the college again and to taste authentic Chinese zongzi. This event has again provided my classmates and me with unforgettable memories."
"Alkaline rice dumplings are slightly bitter but delicious. I learned to make rice dumplings and am pleased to be here. We are captivated by Chinese culture." said Russian student VladaPotapova, who tasted alkaline rice dumplings for the first time and found it novel.
Besides, engaging activities such as classical Chinese dance and Hanfu show were staged. Local and international students performed classical Chinese dance at the beginning of the event. A Duanyang cultural etiquette performance featuring a "Hanfu show" also gracefully unfolded.
