SCNU held an academic salon for young teachers at the School of Marxism on March 18 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the publication of President Xi Jinping's "3·18" important speech.

Wang Binwei, secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, pointed out in his speech that the speech, which President Xi delivered as he presided over the symposium for teachers of the ideological-political theory course in schools on 18 March 2019, emphasized the importance of ideological-political theory courses. The course is the fundamental course to carry out the basic task of fostering virtue through education, according to Xi's speech. The speech has set the course for and provided the guidelines for the development of ideological-political courses and ideological-political education in schools.

Wang Binwei continued his speech by sharing his view on ideological-political courses and courses' development. He said that developing good ideological-political courses is one of the top priorities of the country. It is not only an important embodiment of Chinese characteristics and the Chinese path to modernization but also the need for developing talented personnel and healthy individual growth.
Then, he put forward requirements for developing good ideological-political courses concerning the university, schools and teachers.
First, the university should always uphold the Party’s leadership, strengthen Party building, and implement the decision and deployment of the CPC Committee of SCNU in developing the ideological-political course. At the same time, the university should advance the course's high-quality development by cooperating more with middle and primary schools in carrying out ideological-political education.
Second, the School of Marxism should further develop Party building and ideological-political education, personnel training, and young teacher teams to extend SCNU's influence.
Third, teachers of the ideological-political courses should meet six requirements: remain firm in their conviction in Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics, study hard, think deeply, gain knowledge, be strict with themselves and improve their skills. Only in this way can they instill students with noble personalities, inspire students with the power of truth, and win students with profound theories, as he mentioned.
Young teachers share their opinions on developing ideological-political courses.
Jiang Jiwei, deputy dean of the School of Marxism, introduced the current situation and the highlights of ideological-political courses at SCNU.
Ten young teachers discussed topics such as "the theoretical logic and practical logic of ideological-political course reform and innovation" and "the fundamental purpose of personnel training and the significance of ideological-political courses".
Guan Feng, dean of the School of Marxism, reviewed the academic salon as not only commemorating General Secretary Xi Jinping's "3·18" important speech but also practising the spirit of the speech. Young teachers should perform good ideological-political courses, train youth in the new era and contribute to the development of the School of Marxism and the development of SCNU.
