Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Choi Yuk-lin expressed gratitude to the Department of Education of Guangdong province for its support, which facilitated the establishment of the first base at SCNU. She pointed out that SCNU offers teacher education with rich experience and hopes that SCNU will continuously support the professional development of Hong Kong teachers. She expects further cooperation with universities in the Chinese mainland, so that both sides may use each other's strengths and resources via the base to develop diversified and high-quality teacher training projects.
In addition, Dr Choi demanded that the new teachers who participate in the study tour should always help students foster virtues and core values while leading them to pay attention to the top priorities of the country, thus cultivating the society's builders and successors.
Choi Yuk-lin, secretary for education of the HKSAR government, proposes several requirements for the new teachers.
Zhu Kongjun spoke of the establishment of the base as a milestone in the collaboration of teacher education between Guangdong province and Hong Kong. He believes that SCNU will be able to offer Hong Kong teachers high-quality resources with advantages in teacher education, help better Hong Kong teachers' understanding of the education reform in the Chinese mainland, and create more opportunities and broader platforms for deeper communication between teachers from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
Wang Binwei indicated that the establishment of the base is innovative in developing the Hong Kong teacher education system. Since the base provides the teachers with a broad platform for communication and cooperation, they can share advanced educational ideas, teaching methods and curriculum designs.
He stated that the platform enables educators in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to further professional cooperation, cultivate common values and develop a teacher-professional learning community, which is conducive to building the GBA into an international education demonstration area. SCNU will make good use of the base and its strengths and gather high-quality educational resources for the overall development of Hong Kong teachers.
Wang Binwei, secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, talks about the development of Hong Kong teachers.
Following the ceremony was a colloquium focusing on topics such as deepening educational communication and cooperation, strengthening the development of the GBA think tank, expanding the development of the teaching base of Hong Kong and Macao and so on.
Participants discuss and exchange views on deepening educational communication and cooperation, strengthening development of the GBA think tank, etc..
SCNU has long maintained sound cooperation and interaction with the educational sector of Hong Kong and Macao. Besides organising study tours for almost 800 Hong Kong teachers in 2023, SCNU boasts joint talent cultivation and joint laboratories with Hong Kong colleges and universities. SCNU is also one of the four Hong Kong primary and secondary school backbone teacher training bases nationwide.
SCNU will take the establishment of the base as an opportunity and give full play to its advantages in the future. The university will promote closer integration of education within the GBA, build a GBA teacher education hub and support high-quality development of education.
