The ninth Symposium on the Construction of New Think Tanks was held at SCNU from November 30 to December 2. Over 100 experts, members of think tanks and scholars from research institutions and universities, attended the symposium.
Themed "the responsibilities and missions of think tank construction in China", the symposium focused on how to adapt to the needs of the times, meet the requirements of decision-making, and promote theoretical and ideological innovation in think tank research.
Wu Jian, vice president of SCNU, gave a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. He indicated that this academic feast co-organized by SCNU and the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) has built a platform for exchange of think tanks and experts, promoting the development of new think tanks.
Wu Jian thinks highly of the symposium.
According to Liu Xiwen, director of NSLC, think tanks need attention from all sides as a vital source of decision-making consultation. He added that the symposium emphasized the importance of the theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In addition, he hoped that the academia could strengthen exchange and cooperation to foster the development of new think tanks.

The symposium consisted of a keynote speech and a roundtable forum. In the keynote speech, 14 eminent domestic experts briefed on three topics including "China's modernization and think tank development", "Theoretical and methodological innovations in think tank research" and "Operational mechanisms and management innovations of think tanks".
Zhao Gansen, librarian of the SCNU library, and Liu Qing, professor of the School of Economics & Management of SCNU, participated and delivered speeches respectively.
Zhao Gansen introduces the significance of advanced information technologies such as the Metaverse for new think tank development.
Liu Qing shares her thoughts on countermeasures for improving the capacity of new think tanks at Chinese universities.
In the roundtable forum, 16 experts participated in three discussions on the topics of "Policy research on data-driven think tank", "Experience of special reports and internal reference writing", and "Theoretical research and content dissemination of think tanks".
In the concluding remarks, Liu Xiwen pointed out that the symposium focused on a series of thought-provoking issues such as how to carry out think tank research, build a think tank platform, and disseminate the research findings of think tanks. Experts also put forward a number of directions worthy of further research in this field.
