The 7th International Conference on Language Testing and Assessment was held at SCNU from November 10 to 12, attracting more than 200 experts and scholars from universities, research institutions and education examination institutions at home and abroad.
The conference was co-organized by the Chinese Association for Language Testing and Assessment and South China Normal University, with the theme of "promoting an interdisciplinary view of language testing and assessment".
Li Chuanjiang gives a speech and extends his welcome to all the participants.
At the opening ceremony, the vice president of SCNU Li Chuanjiang welcomed all the experts and scholars on behalf of SCNU. Li said that this conference aimed at sharing experiences and achievements of language testing and assessment and promoting an interdisciplinary view of it, which would have a great impact on the Chinese and English language testing communities at home and abroad.
Gu Hongli, dean of the School of Foreign Studies, introduced the development and achievements of the School of Foreign Studies, especially in discipline development and foreign language teacher education.
The conference set up 4 keynote speeches, 6 symposiums, 12 group presentations, and 3 pre-conference workshops.
Professor Christopher DeLuca from Queen’s Elite Academy in Canada, Professor Zhu Xinhua from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Lu Xiaofei from Pennsylvania State University in the United States, and Professor Jin Tan from SCNU gave the keynote speeches at the conference.
The six symposiums were marked by discussion on the linking of the College English Test with the foreign-language assessment system, the validity of the Test for English Majors from the perspective of test fairness, the research on the testing and assessment of university English courses, the methods to bridge the gap between student and teacher feedback literacy, the design and implementation of the localised English test, and the development and application of technology-based on-line diagnostic assessment.
The 12 group presentations touched on topics such as integration of language assessment and other fields of study, technology-facilitated language testing and assessment, assessment literacy of all stakeholder groups, assessing Chinese, assessing young language learners, language proficiency scales and language testing and assessment and so on.
The new committee was elected during the conference. Professor Jin Tan and Professor Huang Li Yan from SCNU were elected as executive members of the committee.

Liu Jianda, president of the Association for Language Testing and Assessment, gave a speech at the closing ceremony. He talked highly of this conference, considering it enjoyable, professional and devoted, and looked forward to the greater contribution of the new committee. He expected to set seminars about language testing between each conference and establish an exact assessment system combined with summative and formative assessment in the spirit advocated by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
SCNU will continue to focus on discipline development, build a broader academic exchange platform, encourage the language testing community to apply the latest research results into the foreign language teaching field and support the development of language testing and assessing in China.
