The signing ceremony for the training and exchange base for teachers from the Macao Special Administrative Region was held on October 17 in Macao. The base is to be opened at South China Normal University.
Witnessed by Wang Jiayi, vice minister of education of China and Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao SAR government, Wang Binwei, Party secretary of SCNU, and Gong Zhiming, director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao SAR signed the cooperation agreement.
According to the agreement, South China Normal University will leverage its disciplinary strengths, professional development platform, network and resources to provide school principals and teachers in Macao with diversified and high-quality teacher training projects via the base, particularly in fields such as artificial intelligence education, and STEAM education, enabling educators in Macao to improve their professional competencies.
In addition, the base also serves as an important opportunity to deepen the exchange and cooperation in education between Guangdong and Macao, and to cultivate a high-quality teacher group in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, thus laying a solid foundation for improving the quality of education in Macao and promoting integrated development of education in the area.
SCNU has been among the first to launch training programs in Macao, which can be traced back to 1985. For 40 years, SCNU has trained over 70% of the total number of kindergarten, elementary and middle school teachers in Macao.
