The official commemorative emblem for SCNU’s 90th Anniversary was released on 31 May 2023. The new emblem will be the logo for the coming birthday of SCNU. It also expresses the best wishes for the future.
The 90th-Anniversary emblem of South China Normal University.
Stroked in gradient-coloured wash paint, the bold number 90 is used in recognition of the 90th Anniversary. The ink stroke indicates a rich accumulation of Chinese culture, and the colour red stands for the spirit of teacher training, while the ocean blue represents SCNU's pursuit of openness towards the world and the future. The whole emblem looks like a comma, which represents a continuation of the past and expects a brighter future.
In the centre of the logo is the emblem of SCNU, which is made up of three overlapping symbols that resemble the Chinese character for people 人. It is inspired by Confucius’s quote “When we walk along with two others, they may serve me as my teachers” and reveals the school’s aim of talent cultivation.
The upper part of 9 forms the symbol “∞” along with 0, like the Taiji diagram in Chinese culture, suggesting that SCNU will forge ahead and strive for development in its 90s.
Sun Peng, a professor of the School of Fine Arts, is the main designer of the 90th-Anniversary emblem. He states that the logo fits the theme of the 90th Anniversary, integrates the spirit of Chinese culture, and reflects SCNU's characteristics and rich culture.
The release of the emblem came along with the announcement that the school will apply the logo to commemorative products, content and events in the months leading up to the 90th anniversary this winter.
