A research team of South China Normal University has received the second prize and secured a position in the top 10 among over 400 teams in the highly renowned Research China 2022 competition. This marks the best record for SCNU since the competition was established in 2005.
Led by Zeng Xiao, an SCNU postgraduate higher education major of Grade 2021, and under the instruction of Professor Chen Xianzhe of the School of Education, the research team was made up of postgraduates of the School of Education, undergraduates of the School of Psychology and undergraduates of the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China.
The program focused on the rise and fall of secondary schools at the county level and the changes in county education based on the field study of six counties in six provinces. Team members went to Guangdong, Hubei, Shaanxi, Henan, Guizhou province and Inner Mongolia, and interviewed many people in secondary schools including principals, teachers, students and parents. After gathering a significant amount of first-hand information, the team was able to gain valuable insights into the current state of secondary schools at the county level.
During the investigation, the team wrote one survey report, produced three short documentaries, and collected 200 GB photos and videos in total. Two relevant research results were published in China Education News, and four relevant academic papers in domestic core journals. Moreover, the team was approved and funded by the 2023 Guangdong Key Basic Research Special Foundation of "Climbing Plan", and won the grand prize and progressive innovation award in the 10th "Challenge Cup" of SCNU.
