In 2022, a book of Wang Suiping, professor of the School of Psychology, was added to the National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences, according to the announcement of National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences released recently. It marks the first work in Chinese psychology to be added to the list.
Professor Wang’s book entitled Cognitive and Neural Mechanisms of Semantic Processing in Language Comprehension empirically explores and analyzes features of semantic processing and unique neural pathways in language comprehension in time and space, based on the distinct linguistic characteristics of the Chinese language. A series of experimental experiments of meticulous design was used to develop a dynamic brain activation model with semantic processing dual pathways.
The book provides important ideas for the academic community to consider how to take the characteristics of Chinese language processing into account and develop a cognitive theory for language that has both universality and specificity. At the same time, it is a valuable reference for teachers and students majoring in linguistics, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, etc., and for social science researchers engaged in language processing research.
What’s more, this book also represent one of the significant achievements of SCNU Children and Adolescents' Reading and Development Laboratory led by Professor Wang Suiping. The laboratory, which was selected into the first batch of philosophy and social sciences laboratories of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2021, focuses on the cutting edge scientific issues concerning reading comprehension processes and the cognitive development of children and adolescents. By systematically studying the basic process of reading comprehension and its significant function on the all-round cognitive development of children and adolescents, professor Wang and her team conducted research which is strategic, prospective and practical through fully utilizing modern information technology and advanced experimental methods.
A total of 65 works were addedto the National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences nationwide in 2022, with only 2 from Guangdong province. Professor Wang Suiping's book is the fifth selection of its kind at SCNU, which fully demonstrates the strength and level of SCNU in the field of philosophy and social science research.
The National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences has been set up by the National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences. Since its launch in 2010, the selection of works takes place every two years, and no more than 70 works are selected each time in principle. It aims to build a national-level high-end academic brand, focuses on introducing academic masterpieces that reflect practical innovations in the new era, reflects the current frontier of China's philosophy and social sciences research and the highest level of related disciplines, and fully exploits the exemplary and leading role of outstanding achievements and talents in philosophy and social sciences.
