Three volunteer service projects of SCNU stood out in the 6th Chinese Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition and received gold, silver, and bronze prizes respectively.
The health project of the postgraduate volunteer teaching group titled "Goodbye! Little Monster of Infectious disease", a health promotion action plan for the children of farmers and herdsmen's families in the city of Chamdo in the Tibet autonomous region, won the gold prize.
Supported by the local Red Cross Society, CDC, hospitals and other healthcare organizations, the gold award winning team designed a Chinese-Tibetan bilingual picture book called Goodbye! Little Monster of Infectious Disease and developed matching audio picture book, cultural products and health knowledge testing systems in order to improve the hygiene and mental health of children in agricultural and rural areas. The project covered 8 primary and secondary schools in Chamdo, and benefited more than 4,610 teachers and students.

The child-care project "Creative Camp for Rural Children", a volunteer program to train rural children's numeracy skills and innovation ability submitted by the volunteer service team from the School of Information Technology in Education received the silver prize. Aiming at solving the problems of growth for children and teenagers, the project integrated the teaching resources, organized university and college students to provide volunteer teaching service for primary and middle schools in areas like Mohe in Heilongjiang province, Guyuan in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, and Longshi in Fujian province, and offered numeracy skills courses to rural schools. More than 5,000 volunteers and 8,674 rural teachers received training.

Another childcare project was set up by a postgraduate volunteer teaching group: "Pursuing Dreams while Reading Happily". Their action plan aiming to improve the comprehensive ability of children in rural areas won the bronze prize. The project was designed for children of farmers and herdsmen's families in Chamdo(Tibet), and provided 66 courses in humanistic history, science and technology, and educational activities such as exchanging letters in pairs, etc. As part of the project 4 reading corners for the Chamdo Youth Activity Centre and No. 2 Junior Middle School in the Karuo district were built, and more than 5,300 books were donated, benefiting 8,730 students.

The Chinese Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition and Volunteer Service Exchange is the highest-level, the most influential activity in the field of voluntary services in China, with the widest participation. Since the competition started in 2014, SCNU has been promoting the development of volunteering projects and supporting sustainable projects by encouraging students to participate in the Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition and holding volunteer service exchange programs on its campus.
