The 2022 "Chinese Language Teaching Idols" Chinese Language Teaching Skills Demonstration & Exchange for the south-central part of China was held at SCNU via video link on October 29.
With the theme "Explore new standards for Chinese language teaching", the event was organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and the National Postgraduate Education Committee for the Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, and hosted by SCNU. It aims to motivate international Chinese language teachers to update their teaching concepts and methods as well as promote the cultivation of international Chinese language education professionals.
At the opening ceremony, Yang Zhongmin, the vice president of SCNU, said that the event brought together experts and teams from the south-central region of China who work in the field of international Chinese teaching, in order to jointly present a feast of international Chinese teaching skills exchange and make new contributions to the development of international Chinese education. Since international Chinese education serves as a vital part of international exchange work, SCNU will further integrate its strengths, innovate its form and promote high-quality development, he added.

On behalf of the expert review team, Zuo Pengjun, dean of the School of International Culture, pointed out that all projects fully demonstrated the new trends and achievements of international Chinese education in different scenarios. Meanwhile, he hoped that exchange work in future would pay more attention to the new trends in international Chinese education.

Representatives including Luo Lin of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wang Qiyang of Jinan University and Zhu Caiping of Guangxi University delivered speeches on behalf of their teams from domestic universities and overseas Confucius Institutes respectively. They expressed their aspirations and wishes to pass down the spirit of "Chinese Language Teaching Idols" together.
On top of that, 28 teams from 24 universities and colleges in the south-central region of China presented their projects and reports to experts through CLASSIN (an online live-classroom interactive system) during the demonstration session of the day. Some of them combined history and reality to tell the Chinese story, some integrated Chinese teaching resources to boost the international dissemination of Chinese culture, some used video to foster an immersive Chinese classroom atmosphere, others showed well-knit specialized knowledge by preparing a textbook text.

Qin Honglei, deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of SCNU, made a summary at the end of the event. Based on the teaching objectives, teaching process, teaching evaluation and the use of teaching resources, each university team not only conducted study situation research and program design, but also recorded various forms of teaching courses. He also recognized that the experts had put forward a lot of constructive opinions and enlightening insights. "Through this event, we will accumulate experience and energy for the development of international Chinese education in the post-epidemic era," he said.

Started in July, this activity has been held in six regions: namely at Beijing Foreign Studies University for the northern region of China, at Dalian University of Foreign Languages for the north-eastern region, at East China Normal University for the eastern region, at Yunnan Normal University for the south-western region, at Northwest Normal University for the north-western region and at South China Normal University for the south-central region of China. The national exchange activities will be held in December. Then 5 teams of teachers and 3 teams of students with outstanding performance from each region are expected to participate.
