As China kicked off the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on October 16, SCNU leaders, students and faculty members from various schools and departments discussed the significance of the national congress and lauded China's achievements over the past decade at several events held on campus.
Wang Binwei, secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, pointed out that Xi Jinping's report expounded major theoretical and practical problems related to the overall situation of the Party and the country in the new era and initiated a series of long-term strategic deployments. It is the latest result of sinicized Marxism combined with modernization, as well as the political statement and program of action for the Party to unite and lead the people to uphold and develop Socialism with Chinese characteristics; he also put forward three requirements to study, advocate and implement the spirit of the Congress.
The remarks were made at the thematic learning meeting on what to learn from the 20th CPC National Congress, which was attended by Party Committee members of SCNU and heads of functional departments on October 17.

Wang Enke, president and deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of SCNU, added that SCNU should fully implement the Party's education policy, foster integrity and promote the rounded development of people and carry on the initiatives to "highlight the characteristics of teaching and promote the development of disciplines", striving to cultivate builders and defenders of socialism with a comprehensive moral, intellectual, and physical development, as well as aesthetics and labor education.

Other Party Committee members talked about the vision on school work based on their understanding of the spirit of the congress respectively, focusing on topics such as the building of high-quality cadres, the work on state-owned assets, the leadership of youth work, the promotion of organized research and the education system for teachers and so on. The heads of functional departments also talked about what they gained from the report and how to implement its spirit in actual work.

At another meeting on learning the spirit of the report made by President Xi Jinping, Wang Binwei stressed that it is necessary to promote the development of the "Double First-class" university in line with the strategy of invigorating China through science and education as mentioned during the 20th CPC National Congress. In accordance with the four standards for being a good teacher put forward by President Xi Jinping, teachers should have ideals and faith, virtue and morality, a solid base of knowledge and benevolence, and cultivate excellent talents for the country; students should study diligently and research industriously to be excellent builders and backers of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Beside school leaders, representatives of students and faculty members alse attended the meeting. Encouraged and inspired by the report, they exchanged their understanding of Xi Jinping's report and discussed how to implement the spirit of the Congress.

Hu Guosheng, vice dean of the School of Marxism, said that we should incorporate the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress into teaching and find a new path for combining it with the teaching of ideological and political education in the new era.

Li Jun, an outstanding young scholar at the School of Tourism Management, said that one should remain true to their original aspiration and keep one's mission firmly in mind to foster a new generation capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation. Six students from different colleges also shared their opinions based on their personal experiences. They all expressed their eager to study and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, follow the instructions and guidance of the Party and show the responsibility of youth of SCNU in the new era.
According to school statistics, a total of 6412 faculty members and students watched the 20th CPC National Congress together at 70 different venues, while 29088 watched the event on their own on October 16.
