To elaborate on the theme, Wang started with a comprehensive analysis of the current international as well as domestic situation. He encouraged students to think about what changes have taken place with the change of the times.
In terms of the change of the world and China in particular, he pointed out that the world's economy, politics, and civilization have largely changed. The world today is undergoing accelerating changes unseen in a century. China has made remarkable changes in its strength, status and governance. This indicates that scientific socialism is full of vitality in 21st century China. The Chinese Path to Modernization has contributed to Chinese wisdom, and has helped to solving human problems.

In terms of educational development, Wang also said that, China's education system has been steadily improving, and the overall level of higher education has entered the world's first phalanx. In this trend, SCNU has maintained rapid development, with its comprehensive strength ranking at the forefront among China's universities.
In terms of changes of the university, he said that SCNU is currently further promoting the implementation of the "double world-class project", focusing on constructing a new BSG (Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou) tripartite pattern of teacher training colleges, and moving forward to build a world-class university with more distinctive comprehensive and pedagogic characteristics by the middle of the century.
From these four aspects, he gave a whole picture of the time we live in and enabled students to better understand the world, our China and the current age. In understanding the changes of the times, Wang further encouraged students to think about what young people should do to live up to what the country expects of us. He highlighted the achievements and traditions of the university over the past 89 years since the founding of SCNU in 1923, and cited examples of famous SCNU figures who have made great contributions to the school and been models of virtue for others.

He suggested that students should be firm in their ideals and convictions, be hard-working and be a paragon of virtue, so as to inject new impetus into building socialism with Chinese characteristics and bring vitality to fulfil the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation. On the other hand, he advised that SCNUers keep up with the times, study diligently, innovate constantly, and adapt to changes scientifically and actively.
Wang added that not only should the determination of the Party Leadership be strengthened, but we should also learn more about Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and carry out the spirit of the 20th National Congress of CPC.
Students listen to the lesson and take notes carefully.
"I have benefited a lot from this lesson. It's important to stay confident, catch the contemporary waves with the vision of making adjustments and the belief of remaining unchanged," Liu Xianxian, a freshman majoring in applied psychology from the School of Psychology said. "We should also understand SCNU and China, seize the best of the times and live it to the fullest, in order to be a successful SCNUer and realize the Chinese dream."
