The 1st International Education Forum was held at the School of Education of SCNU on September 24, with the aims of reviewing educational development, exploring solutions to common human development problems, and providing approaches to build a Community of Shared Future for Mankind from an educational perspective.
The forum focused on the theme of "Educational Development towards A Community of Shared Future for Mankind: National Experiences and International Views", offering experts and specialists worldwide a platform to strengthen international comprehensions and to promote crosscultural communication. The event was attended by dozens of experts and scholars from several famous universities from the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, the United States, Singapore, New Zealand and China.
Chen Wenhai, vice president of SCNU, delivered a welcome address at the opening ceremony. Starting with the centuries-old Chinese idea of "Great Harmony", and combining the contemporary contexts and the profound changes in domestic and international situations, he explained the importance and the reality to promote the building of a Community of Shared Future for Mankind (CSFM) by means of the sustainable development of education.

The meeting consisted of a series of keynote reports, in which the speakers touched upon topics such as educational approaches to building a CSFM, sustainable development of education, internationalization of education, publicity and international flow of education, followed by heated round-table discussions among participants.
Li Shengbing, dean of the School of Education of SCNU, analyzed the value orientation and actual state of a CSFM. He highlighted the humanistic feelings in education in this concept, and emphasized the responsibilities taken by pluralistic actors in building an education in the context of a CSFM, and clarified the possible challenges during the process.

Zhu Xudong, dean of the Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University, gave a systematic explanation on the educational approach of building a CSFM based on multi-disciplinary theoretical perspective and observations on policy practices. Wang Chuang, dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Macau, explained the importance of school context in promoting sustainable development of education. He also emphasized the vital role played by a principal's concept of school management in this process.
Christine Goh, dean of the National Institute of Education, at the Nanyang Technological University, clarified the connotations of sustainable education under the individual learning context in the post-pandemic era and explored course teaching and educational practice of teachers under the study framework of "4-life".
Ruth Hayhoe, professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, investigated the unity between Chinese culture and Chinese teacher training colleges and said that Chinese teacher training colleges started a unique school running mode in international higher education. Yang Rui, dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong focused on research approaches of comparative higher education in East Asia and extended the topic to the observations of actual policies and practical issues on basis of academic theories discussion. Based on the concept of building CSFM, Professor Jiang Kai of the Graduate School of Education of Peking University investigated the direction of international development of Chinese higher education, its experience and challenges.

Professor Chen Shuangye of East China Normal University, emphasized the significance of openness in promoting the mobility and international communication of students and introduced several concepts. Professor Simon Marginson of the University of Oxford compared the conceptual difference between "globalization" and "internationalization" of higher education and discussed the possibility of cross-border cultural and educational exchange in the current geopolitical environment and with the currently existing challenges.
Other topics included the impact of the pandemic on children's education, the development of early childhood education in China from the international comparative perspective, the research paradigm of educational anthropology, and the global development trend of scientific research which aims to promote common good.
The forum has played an important role in converging knowledge and wisdom from global educational experts and provided a platform to jointly discuss educational solutions to the construction of CSFM under new environment and help to make education contribute more to the future development of the society, said professor Li Shengbing at the closing ceremony.
