The opening ceremony for international students of the School of International Culture was held on September 16. Leaders from the the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation and teacher representatives as well as several language students participated, while foreign undergraduate and postgraduate students joined on line.

Tan Weihong, director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, first gave a brief introduction of the history and general situation of SCNU. She welcomed the students to enjoy the unique atmosphere of SCNU and the city of Guangzhou, hoping that they may soon adapt to the international Chinese language program and their study life at SCNU.

Zuo Pengjun, dean of the School of International Culture, then spoke about the history, teaching aims and the characteristics of talents training of the School of International Culture. He promised that the teaching faculty will do their best to provide a good learning atmosphere for the students.
“No matter what you are going to pursue, language training, undergraduate study or post-graduate study, I hope that you can adhere to your majors. You will not only acquire a comprehensive understanding of Chinese language and culture from the past to the present, but learn to integrate the language and culture of your own countries, so as to achieve better cross-cultural communication and understanding,” he said, meanwhile extending his sincere hope for success to all students.
Dean Zuo calls on the students to cherish the learning opportunities.
Wang Lan, a teacher representative, put forward some suggestions for study skills for the international students. She said that although the pandemic has prevented them from coming to Guangzhou and meeting and studying in a classroom setting on the campus, the students actually have more chances to communicate with their teachers and fellow students online. She hoped that the students could read more and think more to enrich their college life.

Student representative, Onodera, an advanced Chinese language student from Japan, delivered her speech in fluent Chinese. She said that it's the rich culture and unique atmosphere that made her choose to study at the School of International Culture of SCNU. Her words show great excitement about the upcoming semester and she believes that the following months of learning with her fellow students will be one of her happiest periods in her life.

To show the charm of Chinese culture, the ceremony included performances such as dance and recitation. The warm-up dance performance in hanfu, the traditional dress of the Han Chinese people, was performed by several Chinese students. The soothing Chinese ancient music, the exquisite traditional Chinese clothes and graceful poise impressed the audiences, adding a memorable highlight to the ceremony.

Two students Tian Liang from Mexico and He Ye from China, presented the recital performance in Chinese, conveying their strong feelings and praise for the Chinese Bridge.

Also at the ceremony, school badges of SCNU were presented to student representatives by participating leaders.
