SCNU welcomed nearly 8,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 5,000 new postgraduate students on August 27 and August 28 in two batches.
The newcomers to the Shipai campus and the University Town campus entered SCNU in two batches on August 27-28, while all new students to the Nanhai campus and the Shanwei campus registered on August 28.
In order to reduce gatherings and split the flow of people, SCNU optimized the registration process. Upon arrival at the campus, they scanned a QR code to generate the permit, had their code and temperature checked in the registration entry, and entered the campus under the guidance of volunteers.
As soon as they entered the school gates, the freshmen were greeted by the exhibition board with the words 'warm welcome to the new students of the grade of 2022' and the volunteers who were ready to help.
For two days, the Young Volunteers Association of SCNU set up more than 200 volunteer service points near the gates of three campuses, on the ground floor of the dormitories and near registration spots to provide guidance, give information, help with luggage storage and handling and other services.
On the Shanwei campus, volunteers waited for the new students at the nearby high-speed railway station guide them to the campus.
Beside offering volunteer services, distinctive decorations adorned some faculty buildings and special gifts with unique features were also given to the new students.
For example, the School of Chemistry collected photos of all the new students and arranged them into in the shape of “SCNU” to make photo walls.
The School of Foreign Studies made posters with greetings in English, Japanese and Russian to welcome students of different majors.
The School of Information and Optoelectronic Science and Engineering welcomed the new students with their robots, which were shown and operated on the spot in the lobby of the school building. Trophies and certificates earned by previous students were also shown next to the registration spot, hoping to spark their enthusiasm for science and their love for the school.
The School of Chinese Language and Literature customized new gifts for the new students, which included hand-drawn postcards, key rings engraved with students' names, black or white canvas bags and pencil bags. The school also invited outstanding graduates to write more than 50 postcards for newcomers, which were sent to them randomly.
