The ceremony conveyed the spirit of SCNU role models through a series of documentaries about their academic performance and research involvement as well as social service experience. It mainly consisted of four parts, namely "Striving for excellence", "Giving a helping hand", "Shouldering responsibilities" and "Passing down the spirit."
Each part featured a special documentary, which told vivid stories of SCNU model students and the crystallization of the spirit of role models of SCNU by means such as interviews, scene reproduction and trans-time-and-space dialogues. The event was also broadcast live in 35 venues on the Shipai campus, the University Town campus, the Nanhai campus and the Shanwei campus.
The theme song "Model", composed by Hua Wenyao, an undergraduate at the School of Music, and sung by 14 students under the direction of Teachers Su Yanhui and Xu Kunming of the School of Music.
The first part is about unforgettable experiences and sentiments of the growth from the students in some important competitions such as the China International College Students' 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Challenge Cup, a national extra-curricular academic and scientific works competition for college students. This session showed the struggling quality of the role models who are brave and dare to be the first in study, competition and scientific research.
The second part presented the great love of the role model students, who participated in the epidemic prevention and control both in school and community, provided the front-line of psychological assistance and the voluntary work to support education in remote areas. Two representatives Chen Shuqing and Li Shuzhen were invited to the site to share their detailed stories, so that teachers and students could experience the strength of SCNU.

The session of "shouldering responsibilities" reflected the broad-mindedness of SCNU students who took the initiative to take on the mission and made contributions in the fields of basic education, special education, the education in the west, the rural revitalization and so on.
This part also highlights the touching story of Cheng Tonglong, a 2011 undergraduate from the School of Physics and Telecommunications Engineering, who gave up his job in Guangzhou and resolutely chose to go to Nagqu, in Tibet to guard the border of the country after graduation. In his 11 years in the army, Cheng has been awarded the Citation for Meritorious Deeds four times and the Merit Citation Class III twice. Through practical action, he has set a good example of the sense of responsibility and the love for the country.

The last part showed how students who used to be awarded as role models of SCNU passed down the spirit in devotion to rural revitalization, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship, constantly surpassed themselves and explained their understandings towards the role models. After the end of the last session, the student representatives performed the recitation themed on "advancing with the times." They told the stories of the four SCNU students who devoted their youth to the Communist Party of China and the country and moved forward with the times in different historical periods.
Also at the ceremony, the presentation group of SCNU role models was established, and SCNU president Wang Enke conferred a flag to them. It is hoped that the group will carry out activities to spread the spirit and enhance their understanding in class meetings, league activities and so on. The ceremony ended up with the song “Model” which was produced by teachers and students of SCNU.
Since 2009, “Role Models of SCNU” has been successfully held six times, based on the idea that role models are around us and everyone can become a role model, and thus set up a large number of role models from and for the students. In the past 13 years, it has gradually developed into the influential cultural brand with SCNU features in college education, having received wide attention and recognition both inside and outside SCNU.
