Ranking NO.3 in Guangdong, SCNU hit a record-high in the 13th “Challenge Cup” Entrepreneurship Competition for Guangdong College Students, with five gold prizes, seven silver prizes and two bronze prizes.
The winning works from SCNU cover various fields including photoelectricity, medicine and physical chemistry, psychology and culture preservation, fully showing the advancement in cultivating entrepreneurship. For instance, one of the gold-winning teams sees themselves as pioneers in the early screening of lung cancer. The team led by Cai Songliang, an assistant professor of the School of Chemistry of SCNU, studied the technology of Quartz Crystal Microbalance and based on it, developed a micro-RNA early-screening detection device for lung cancer, which is capable of lowering the price and saving time in early screening.

In preparation for the provincial finals, nearly 100 training sessions have been provided to students to help them polish and improve their works. Besides, students have also been particularly trained on text writing, and PPT making skills, according to the SCNU Communist Youth League Committee.
The “Challenge Cup” Entrepreneurship Competition for Guangdong College Students is co-sponsored by the Guangdong Communist Youth League Committee, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and Guangdong Federation of Students. A total of 1,763 works from 151 universities in the province were shortlisted for the finals event this year.
In recent years, SCNU has achieved new record highs in the “Challenge Cup” Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students. In 2020, 15 entries from SCNU all won prizes in the Guangdong finals, winning the Guangdong Victory Cup. In the year 2020, SCNU also wrapped up a gold prize, two silver prizes and five bronze prizes in the National Contest, thus winning the National Victory Cup for the first time.
